A rare and exotic
creature stole the American limelight at the '99
Yorkshire Motor Festival, in the form of the outrageous bright
purple 'hot rod' Chrysler concept car, that actually became a
reality.
East Yorkshire's Chrysler and Jeep dealer, Peter
Stockill, proudly displayed this awesome 50's retro-style
roadster, which blended with hot rod influences, and did not
fail to turn heads.
There's no mistaking the two-seater convertible with its
massive 20-inch rear aluminium wheels and unique split bumpers
to protect the incredibly long bonnet. Most of the body frame,
even the oval instrument panel, are also made of aluminium.
And in true hot rod
style, many of the components have been borrowed from existing
Chrysler production cars, including the 3.5 litre V6 engine
which gives a nippy acceleration time of just 7.5 seconds and a
top speed of around 130mph if unchecked.
The Chrysler Prowler featured alongside the line-up from the
Chrysler and Jeep ranges, including the world's best selling
people mover, the Chrysler Voyager, as well as the award winning
all-new 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
John Joyce, Sales Manager for Peter Stockill was delighted to
be exhibiting the Chrysler Prowler and said, "There are
only a handful of Prowlers in Europe, so it's very exciting for
us to have such a rare vehicle on display at the show - visitors
to the stand will not be disappointed!" - and they
certainly weren't if the numbers round their stand were anything
to go by. |
